Ode to the Street Lamp
Inspired by street lamps, my work tells a serendipitous story about safety that refers to growing up on a council estate in greater Copenhagen.
Born in the Arab empire before the light bulb & electricity, street lighting provided not just light, but by virtue of the light, a new-found safety. Where I grew up, street lights were friends of mine to take me home at night.
I interpret shapes & ornamental details into jewellery, etched or stamped with poetic sentences that aid understanding of the concept and set my handmade ‘gemstones’, made from European porcelain, in 100% recycled silver and brass.
